What this can and cannot tell you NOAA reports hail detections on a 0.1° grid tile — a box roughly 7 miles tall. A detection means radar saw hail somewhere in that box, not that hail fell on a specific roof. Radar resolution is sharpest near the radar site and coarsens with distance, and terrain can block the beam. No detection is an absence of evidence, not proof that nothing fell. This is a screening tool — not an insurance claim, a loss report, or an engineering inspection.
