Plain terms for a small business. If something here reads as though it were written to protect us at your expense, tell us and we will fix it.

Who you are dealing with

What Hit My House is a business operated from Fredericksburg, Virginia, United States. It is not incorporated as a separate company at the time of writing, so you are dealing with an individual operator rather than a corporate entity. Contact details are below.

What we sell

All prices are in US dollars.

• Documented hail report, $19. A per-address record of which dates NOAA radar detected hail at or near a street address, assembled from public-domain federal weather data. Delivered automatically: paying returns you to a page that builds the document and opens it in your browser, where one click prints it or saves it as a PDF. There is no file emailed to you and nobody assembles it by hand. Keep the link you land on; it stays valid and rebuilds the document each time you open it.
• Exclusive inspection lead, $49. Sold to roofing contractors, not to homeowners. One homeowner who asked to be contacted, sold to one contractor per city, invoiced after delivery, with no contract or minimum.

We run no subscriptions. Nothing on this site bills you again next month. If that ever changes, this page will say so before it happens.

We only offer the report where the archive holds something. The buy option appears on an address only when the radar record returned at least one hail day for it. On an address with none, no buy option appears and the page says why, because a document reporting that nothing was detected is not worth paying for. That check runs automatically as your free result loads.

What the report is NOT

This is the part worth reading twice.

• It is not a damage assessment. It reports that hail of a measured or estimated size reached an area on a date. It never states, and must never be read as stating, that a particular roof was damaged. Hail can hit a house and cause nothing.
• We are not insurance adjusters, engineers, or contractors, and nothing we sell is a professional opinion on the condition of a building.
• It is not a guarantee about a claim. Whether an insurer pays is entirely their decision and we have no influence on it.
• We are independent. Not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by NOAA, the National Weather Service, or any government agency.

Where the data comes from, and its honest limits

Everything is built on public-domain federal sources, chiefly NOAA radar-derived hail estimates and National Weather Service storm reports. Those sources have documented limits and we would rather you hear them from us:

• Radar over-detects hail occurrence compared with what people actually observe on the ground. A radar signature is evidence, not proof.
• NOAA's own evaluation states that radar-estimated hail size should not be used as a direct proxy for the size of hail that actually fell. We report sizes as estimates and say where they came from.
• Ground reports follow observers, not hail. Quiet rural areas produce fewer reports for reasons that have nothing to do with the weather.

Where we cannot tell the difference between "nothing happened" and "nobody was there to see it", we say so rather than guessing.

Acceptable use

Buy a report, read it, print it, show it to your insurer or your contractor. That is all intended. Do not resell our reports as your own product, scrape the site in bulk, or present our observations as a professional damage finding. We publish a free keyless API for programmatic access, documented on the site, and would rather you use that than hammer the pages.

Availability and coverage

Coverage is United States addresses only, because the underlying federal data is. We make no promise that the site is available without interruption, and pages state when they were last built so you can see for yourself whether what you are reading is current.

Liability, stated honestly

We sell a $19 document assembled from public records. Our responsibility to you is to deliver it accurately, and to refund you if we do not. We are not responsible for decisions you make after reading it, for what an insurer decides, or for work a contractor performs. Nothing in these terms limits any right you have that cannot be limited by law.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia, United States.
