When is the day the most recent report from that place was filed, in GMT. It matters more than it looks. A street that was hit six days ago has probably already had somebody knocking on it, and a homeowner who has said no four times is a different conversation from one who has not been asked. Older does not mean gone — the roof is still damaged and the claim window is still open in most states — it means you are not first.
Largest is the biggest size reported to the National Weather Service, in inches. Read it together with the two columns beside it. Most of these come from the public rather than trained spotters, many are rounded to a coin size, and some times are estimated from radar. A size on its own does not tell you whether the stone was hard enough to bruise a mat — the description often does.
Reported by is who filed it. A trained spotter with a photo and a member of the public tapping a coin icon in a phone app both appear in this feed, and they are not the same evidence. What they said is their own words, unedited.
A ×3 after a place means three separate reports came from around it. A … means the name arrives cut short from the upstream feed and we cannot recover the rest.
These are reports, not a survey. Local Storm Reports are preliminary observations from NWS forecast offices, contributed by spotters, the public, mesonet stations and emergency managers. Coverage follows where people are, not where hail is: no report does NOT mean no hail. Sizes are frequently rounded to a coin size and some times are radar-estimated. Reports may be revised or withdrawn.
A town missing from this list is not a town without hail. Coverage follows observers, not weather. A large stone that lands where nobody is standing is reported by nobody.
